THE YARD LISTENERWhat’s inside the yard listener?
A Raspberry Pi in a CanaKit case, paired with a separate lavalier microphone. The bird-identification model runs on the Pi, right at home. The microphone is wired to the computer and positioned to hear your visitors.
OUT AND ABOUTCan I identify birds without the box?
Yes. The iPhone app has its own listener and runs the detector on your phone. Your finds join your atlas and map, marked as “found by you.” If your box has heard the same species at home, the app can connect that discovery to your yard history.
YOUR SOUNDSWhat happens to the audio?
Bird identification happens on the box or on your phone. Audio uploads are optional: enable sound clips for the box or choose “Save the sound” on your phone. Your public yard page does not share audio.
